Gamification and our classroomWhat I have designed for our classroom this trimester is unlike anything you have seen to this point in your schooling. Below is a brief explanation of each of the core concepts of Gamification in my classroom. Follow each link to learn more about each of the concepts of Gamification we are using

Quest LevelsMany of the games that we play involve different Levels, levels that get harder as you play the game more and get better. That is what our classroom will have, too.
The higher the level, the more difficult the quests become. But don't worry - the higher quests are worth more XP. Learn more about out Classroom Levels. |
Grading in our gamified classroom
Despite my strong desire to do so, I cannot get rid of the traditional grading system in my STEM classroom. Believe me, I would love to. I think that we can learn as much from doing things wrong as we can from doing things right. However, our traditional grading system is based on how much you get right, and your grade reflects that.
However, in our class I will not use the traditional grading system. We are going to use a "Gamified" grading system. In our class, you will start at Level 0 and earn XP to level up. The more you level, the higher your grade goes. It may not go up as fast as you want, but it will not go down. And no matter what, you grade will never, ever go down. Not once. So, let's take some time to learn a little more about the grading system we will use in our class. |
Badges - A little something for everyone
Depending on what games you may play, there are different ways that you are rewarded for certain quests, achievements or actions. Some games give you special gear, other games give you special characters. And a lot give you an achievement so that you can compare yourself to your friends and be proud of what you have done.
In our gamified classroom, we are going to have badges. I have made at least 50. But I am not going to tell you what they all are for. Some you will know about. Some you will have to discover. But you can go and learn more about the badges for our class. |
